CONTENT
The Grand Dukes of Florence, the De’Medici family, encouraged scientific and artistic research and proof of this can be found in the “Opificio delle Pietre Dure” (Semi-preciouos stones factory), a Renaissance workshop for the artistic production and workmanship with semiprecious stones like lapis, mother of pearl, slate, jade and seashells, that can be currently admired in the modern conservation centre. You will then visit the Institute and Museum of the History of Science entitled to Galileo where it is possible to see, together with an important collection of scientific instruments, the original scientific tools used by Galileo Galilei. The tour will close with a visit to Galileo´s funeral monument in Santa Croce Church, one of Florence´s largest churches.
